Last Blog Post

This week was a very long week for me! I worked quite a bit, and had a lot of homework...I thought the weekend would never arrive! I am getting nervous/excited about leaving for London. It's going to be time to leave before I know it. I know it's going to be a great experience, but leaving my family that long is going to be hard on me! Hopefully they will be able to come visit me in April. Only time will tell :) Until then, I am going to relax and enjoy what time I have left to spend with my friends and family before I leave!

Nov. 19th

Not much to write about! I have been sick the past three days, and didn't get to go pick out the christmas tree last night with the family. Yes, we put our christmas tree up the sunday before Thanksgiving. We get a lot of comments about that, but it's tradition for our family. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays....hope I'm feeling better to eat all that turkey! Have a blessed week! :)

Thanksgiving!

November is my second favorite month, first being December! I always get to see my family from TN for Thanksgiving, and we always put Christmas decorations up on Nov. 22nd. Ever since I was little, Thanksgiving and Christmas were the two holidays I looked forward to most. There's just something about walking into a warm home with soup on the stove and the smell of christmas in the air. This year, my family will be celebrating with our newest addition to the family; our little cousin Jack. He was born August 25th, and is the sweetest little guy. Unfortunately, he has had many complications. Last night, he was admitted into the hospital for the third time due to him stop breathing. Our family prays that he will be healed and not have to live with lung problems all of his life. With the holidays coming up, we only ask that he be able to spend all that he can with us!

In the holiday spirit,

Research Process

Last week, we were assigned to choose a topic with our groups and create a proposal. We decided on the topic racial profiling and will be discussing what it is, why it is wrong, and ways to end it. I think it's an interesting topic, and when researching, I found the stories I read from people who have been racially profiled to be upsetting and sad. I feel like the class with be interested in what we have to say.

Is it the weekend yet?!

It's wednesday...thank God! I feel as if it really should be Friday...that's how long this week feels to me. Midterms have really been stressing me out, but I am trying to remain calm and do the best that I can.

This Thursday is my sister's high schools soccer sectional. They will play the first round, and if they win, they will move on to play Sat. morning. Being a former four year soccer player, I am very excited for the girls. It takes a lot of work and dedication to get to this point, and I have all confidence that they will do well! Until then, I will be going to school, working, and doing homework! I will also be tuning in to the rescue of the Chile miners. I am so happy and excited for them and their families that they are all safe and being rescued. I watched the first miner come up, and I felt myself take a deep breath in for him. Praying for them all to get up on land safely!

Until next week,

Homecoming Week

This week was the 2010 BSU homecoming week. It was a lot of fun, but very stressful at times! With all the events going on, I really wanted to attend them. But I had to realize that I needed to get my school work done too. I did, however, go to air jam last night! The crowd was just awesome to be around, and the participants danced really well. Unfortunately, I have to work tonight from 4:00-9:30 and tomorrow morning 11:30-8:00pm. Missing the game is not too big of a deal to me, I am not a lover of college football. But the tailgating is something that's not fun to miss out on.
Another highlight of my week was my sister's soccer game Wednesday night. She is a senior at Yorktown High School and they played their hardest team. The game was incredible and the intensity was high. Yorktown ended up winning 2-0. The last goal game in the last 3 minutes! They move on to sectionals next week, and there, they will play their biggest rival, Muncie Central High School. So go BSU Cardinals, and YHS girls soccer! :)

1st Draft

How I learned the difference between a house and a home…

I was ten years old living the life. We had a pool, a huge yard, a wooden swing on the largest oak in our backyard, and had no idea what the word reality meant. Until one day, in the middle of summer, my parents told me we were moving. I was outside swinging looking out into the tall cornfields. I thought to myself “They can’t make me leave, I will scream and make them carry me out!” But that was when reality struck. We started packing our things the weekend after I found out. My brother and sister were younger then me, and the whole thing didn’t seem like a big deal to them. For some reason though, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but this place I called home.
I was stubborn and angry the first few weeks at our new house. Yeah, the house was nice and we were in a neighborhood instead of out in the country, but I just wanted to go back. Our new house smelled, well new. I didn’t like it. I found anything and everything I could to complain about the new place.
The day things change was when I found out one of my friends lived in the neighborhood across from mine. She called me one day and asked if I wanted to go to Pete’s Candy Store down the road. We met half way on our bikes and rode down to Pete’s. He was an old guy, probably in his 70’s, sitting in his big chair in the middle of the shop. He stopped me and asked “Hey kid, haven’t seen you here before.  Come over hear and I will make you a bologna sandwich.” That was the best sandwich I had ever had. From that day on, I would meet my friend half way, then ride down to Pete’s to buy a bologna sandwich and some candy once every week.
I realized that day that the only thing that changed was the location of where I lived and was glad I gave the place a chance. I met a lot of nice neighbor kids and we always got together to play baseball in our cul-de-sac once a week. I remember looking at my new place and realizing that a house was just a place you lived. But a home was where you spent time with family and friends, and enjoyed one another’s company.
